WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF:

My grade gave back to the community by packaging food for the homeless. Giving back to the community is important because it provided me with different perspectives. I feel as if I empathize now with the less fortunate people in the community after this experience. In addition, I feel as if this service has changed my outlook entirely. The experience as a whole helps me appreciate how privileged and lucky I am to have been given all of the opportunities throughout my lifetime. For example, I am so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to go to Somersfield.

WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT THE COMMUNITY:

I noticed that Covid 19 has affected not only the school community but also the community at large because when we were on lockdown it was more difficult to make and package food for the homeless because of all the restrictions put in place. In addition covid19 lockdown definitely had a negative impact on the economy as well because workers that were not able to work from home couldn’t work at all.

WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT FOOD:

I never really thought about before the hard work the chefs put in to make excellent meals for the homeless and package them daily. Now I have a full understanding on how food is made and distributed evenly to the homeless every day. In addition, I loved how all of the chefs were very motivating and positive as we handed out the food. The atmosphere in the kitchen was very positive and hardworking at the same time.
