WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF:

For the couple of hours that we spent working there throughout the week, I noticed that because we were working together as a class, the job honestly became super enjoyable. Because of the way we were set up in ‘stations’, I got the chance to bond with certain classmates, who I normally don’t even talk to. Looking back, I definitely learned how much I enjoy working with a team, to get tasks done.

WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT THE COMMUNITY:

Similarly, when talking about my class as a ‘community’, I think we all kind of uncovered how well all of us work together. On just one day, we were able to make nearly 200 meals, in less that 2 hours. I recall finishing all the work, then looking in the back room to see how many meals we had made, and just being astounded at the quantity.

When talking about the original church volunteers as a community, they are amazing. The two main women who were working there were so kind to accept our help, and teach us how they make so many meals every day. In addition, we were only packaging the food, but they were cooking and prepping the meals. The workload they take on daily, is so astonishing, but it was amazing to see what they could coordinate for a good cause.

WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT FOOD:

Food is a necessity for all, so having the opportunity to go and help those in need, was really incredible. The food we were preparing at the church had such a variety, and all the meals were very balanced. Each meal had a good amount of starch, protein, vegetable and dessert, which makes up for a healthy meal. I’m very grateful for my opportunity to help.
